9am to 3pm, 43 weeks per year.
7:30am-9am and 3pm-4pm are soft blocks (optional and included).
1,800 classroom hours per year (with soft blocks) vs. 1,200 hours in a regular school year.
Parents have keys to the school makerspace so you don't actually have to leave at 4pm (or maybe the truth is your kid wants to leave but you really want to stay and use the commercial kitchen or laser cutter).
Parent volunteer time is not for tasks that the school assigns to the parent, but rather the parent finding ways to help the school further engage in the community. That time can be scheduled well in advance or spontaneous.
Come for a full week so we can get to know each other. Your student will get to keep the same materials and projects we are working on that week. Maybe you need more than a week to decide. That is fine too.
No fundraisers. No auctions. Ever.
No application fees. No enrollment fees. No registration fees. Ever.
Sibling discount? No. It works both ways.
Predictability: Tuition rates are updated once per year based on the Consumer Price Index. Driven will not consider a base tuition rate increase until Fall 2027.
The tuition listed is the actual cost to you. Not a penny more.
Parent / Teacher meals: 4x per year (parent conferences are Dutch lunch or dinner with the teacher).
Every scholarship at Driven is 100% funded with donations or the sale of voting shares (see Legal Structure section below). Our scholarships are never discounts on tuition, but paid for in full. Our goal is to get 100% funded for this year so we can operate admissions on a merit only basis. Our current goal is to raise $840,000 this year.
The structure of the public benefit corporation that Austin School for the Driven operates under is weird. Families don't need to be involved in the operation of that public benefit corporation but you should at least be aware of it, so the option be involved is there. This is a good primer on that legal structure with voting shares. Reach out if you are interested in a voting share as a parent or a community member. Voting shares fund scholarships and retain voting power for the lifetime of the school. Voting shareholders are also the asset and IP owners of the school.
